One of the most important design aspects of your wedding will be picking your color pallete. Don’t know what you like? That’s okay…we will start with the things you don’t like.
…So, what exactly is a color palette?
It will be a collection of colors that are used in various ways throughout your wedding day. These colors will tie into almost every aspect of your wedding: from stationary to flowers, to even unexpected details like your signature cocktails or cake. You don’t have to be limited to two or three colors-just allow those colors to serve as a general guide for how you want your wedding day to feel.
For example, do you want something casual, classy and beachy? You may want to consider soft blue hues and natural colors.
There’s a couple of factors to consider: wedding season, the formality of your events and the overall aesthetic you are looking to achieve. Do you love bohemian style and earth tones? If so, you’ll probably want to consider an outdoor venue instead of a formal country club setting. Do you gravitate towards pastels? If so, that could hint at a spring wedding as opposed to a winter event.
Step one: Location. Most venues offer a really easy-going blank slate for you to build upon. Does your venue have magical views of really vibrant warm hues from the trees in the falll? If so, you’ll want to choose a color to complement those burgundy leaves, such as a burnt orange, navy or champagne.
Step two: Remember what’s important to you guys! Do you have an antique family heirloom you love and are looking to integrate in your wedding? Build the color scheme around that piece so it doesn’t feel lost.
Step three: Set the mood! Are you wanting to have a really fun, lively atmosphere? You may want to incorporate more vibrant and bold colors! Leaning towards something a bit more timeless and understanded? You can’t go wrong with black and ivory.
Step four: Still having a hard time deciding on a color palette? Take a look into your closet. Do you see a common theme? The colors that make their way into your closet often times are in there for a reason, does black make you feel confident? Perfect! Does a dusty blue make your eyes pop? Incredible! Take inspiration from things around you.
